Natalie Backerman

Natalie-Backerman

Ethnicity: Mixed/Hapa — Filipina, Egyptian, Lithuanian, French
Occupation and/or Company: Actor, Director, Singer, Dancer.
Years of experience: 10 years of acting, and five of musical theatre.

Personal & professional philosophy:

Welcome uncertainty and view failures as stepping stones. In art, beautiful things bloom from working outside the box, and instant forgiveness is ceaseless. Get messy.

Upcoming performances/project:

Two short films: Amateur Dramatics, and Everything’s Great!, and UBC’s production of The Crucible which runs from March 15 – 31st.

What is the highlight of your work?

Playing Agnes Evans in UBC’s production of Qui Nguyen’s She Kills Monsters. Agnes is a woman who navigates relatable issues such as grief, forgiveness, and self-care. It challenged me physically, and emotionally in a contemporary, feminist way.

Future goals:

I hope to start a theatre company that welcomes actors, directors, designers, and writers from all walks of life to present original pieces in a safe and budget friendly environment.
