Monica Ogden

Monica-vs.-Still

Age: 26
Ethnicity: Filipina, Polynesian, British
Occupation and/or Company: Storyteller, comedian & anti-racist activist, Rage Sweater Theatre Productions
Years of experience: 11 years

Personal & professional philosophy:
Be the rage you wish to see in the world. People of colour are too often told that their anger is dangerous because it challenges the status quo. Anger promotes societal change. My anger will continue to be a driving force behind why marginalized voices and stories need to be told. I’m a change-maker, and always will be.

Upcoming performances/ project:
Award winning solo show Monica vs. The Internet: Tales of a Social Justice Warrior, Vancouver Fringe Festival

What is the highlight of your work?
Many Filipino families have resonated with the show. Mixed-race people have come to me in tears because they have never felt so seen. I want to find like-minded feminist artists who think the theatre and performing industry needs to change. I want make room for BIPOC with more systemic barriers to enter and share their stories.

Future goals:
I would love to tour Monica vs. The Internet to curated festivals across Canada and continue to share my families stories. I want to continue to shape policy at theatre festivals for better access and safety for marginalized artists by doing consulting and community based work.
